With spring break just around the corner and temperatures on the steady(ish) rise, more and more people will be thinking about their tan, or the lack of one. We all know by now the harmful effects of tanning beds, spray tans can be kind of awkward and semi-expensive, and sunless tanners can be somewhat intimidating. There are a plethora of sunless tanners on the market, but they aren’t all created equal. Using a sunless tanner is the route I went when getting ready for my recent trip to Mexico. Continue reading for my Rodan and Fields Sunless Tanner review!
I received this sunless tanner for free so that I could write an honest review. I only recommend products and services I believe in. All words and opinions are my own!
Rodan and Fields Sunless Tanner Review – Initial Thoughts
I have pretty fair skin, and didn’t want to look insanely pale on the beach. It is February, after all! I turned to my friend and Rodan and Fields Consultant Molly Bachkora for help. She got me a bottle of Rodan and Field’s Foaming Sunless Tan to use before my trip. I don’t remember the last time I had used a self-tanner so I was a little nervous. I was going on a trip with hundreds of people from my husband’s employer and didn’t want to look fake or weird. haha The Foaming Sunless Tan comes out kind of like hair mousse and was easy to apply. The photo to the left shows a comparison of no sunless tanner on the left leg vs two applications on the right. Needless to say I was happy with the natural-looking results!
Rodan and Fields Sunless Tanner Review – Application
When applying any sunless tanner, the first thing you want to do is shave your legs and exfoliate. Exfoliating helps to get rid of any dead skin cells and gives the tanner a nice, clean, smooth surface. Like I said above, the Rodan and Fields Foaming Sunless Tan comes out like hair mousse. I pumped two pumps into my hand, lightly rubbed my hands together, then applied it to one large section at a time, spreading out as I went. For example, I started at my calf and spread down onto my foot and up to my knee. Be careful when doing your joints (knee, ankle, elbow…) as these areas can be more dry than the surrounding skin and take on extra color.
Tip: If you get darker color on these areas, try using an exfoliator on just those spots. It should lighten up the color some. If you don’t have an exfoliator, try using soap and warm water on a rough wash cloth.
Once you’ve rubbed the foam into your skin, wash your hands thoroughly. Let your skin completely dry before sitting or putting on clothing (This did not take very long. Probably just a couple minutes.) and do not shower or bathe for at least an hour. The color can start to develop in 2-4 hours. For me it was closer to four.
Rodan and Fields Sunless Tanner Review – Final Thoughts
I think the Rodan and Fields Foaming Sunless Tan is a fantastic option for getting ready for spring break, summer, or a special event like a wedding! It’s easy to apply, doesn’t streak, and gives you a nice, natural-looking tan. It wasn’t a huge difference, but I only used two applications and got enough of a tan to make me happy. I got a nice tan while in Mexico so I’m good for now but I’ll probably apply more when it gets closer to summer. 🙂 So, final thoughts: I’d totally recommend it!
