The basic t-shirt…something pretty much everyone wears on a regular basis! Especially moms…am I right?! I love taking a comfy tee and dressing it up a bit so that I can be both comfortable and stylish. If you’ve been around for a while, you might remember I covered this once already. I went back and looked and all my outfit options were pretty summery. Now I’ve got you covered with how to style a basic tee in fall, as well! 🙂
How To Style A Basic Tee – Embellished Tee
As I said, I like taking a seemingly basic tee and dressing it up like I did here. This pink pocketed tee from J Crew styles perfectly with this navy polka dotted skirt. I’ve always loved pink and navy together. If you need a light jacket for a cooler evening, this light ruffled jacket is also from J Crew and is just $10!!!
I didn’t style this outfit with shoes but I think you have several options… I think a simple black flat would be an easy choice. Maybe a fun gold or black sandal, or even a pair of black booties since we’re thinking fall! If you wanted to exchange the jacket for a cardigan or denim jacket you could even get away with a pair of white sneakers like these.
How To Style A Basic Tee – Simple Pocketed Tee
The most versatile t-shirts are the solid-colored tees like this one from Old Navy. This one however has a slight boxy shape which makes it on-trend for right now. I styled it with these blue printed statement pants from Tommy Hilfiger. The pants kind of dress up the tee and the tee kind of dresses down the pants. Win win! 🙂
I really like how the denim jacket looks with these two pieces. It brings the different styles together into one cohesive outfit.
What do you think?
How To Style A Basic Tee – Printed Tee
This outfit features a brand new black and white aztec-printed tee from Target. You could style it so many ways: with jeans, a black skirt, colored shorts, etc. I decided to pair it with these baby blue skinny corduroys from J Crew! To go along with the fall-ish look, I also layered the tee with a light grey cardigan from Banana Republic. I love baby blue and light grey together and I think it plays down the print on the tee some, while showing enough to be on-trend. Add a pair of black flats and your outfit is complete!
Tip: If you want to participate in a trend like printed pants or a printed shirt but are nervous about that much print, just cover up some of it! With pants (like the printed pants above or printed leggings like the uber-popular LuLaRoe leggings), you can wear calf-high boots and a long cardigan or tunic to cover up some of the print.
How To Style A Basic Tee – Sports Tee
One of the other popular styles of tee is the sports tee! What sports-lover doesn’t like to represent their team?! (I actually wrote an entire guest post about dressing up sports tees if you’d like to check it out!) Are you like me and love layering in the colder months? I decided to pair this navy and burgundy striped sweater blazer with this dark navy KU t-shirt. The deeper colors of the tee match really well with the stripes. Long, wide-legged jeans are easy to dress up so I added these A-Pocket Jeans from 7 For All Mankind. To fully complete your look, you could go with a simple sneaker to stay casual or wear a pump or wedge to dress it up!
